Music Director – Jayne Turner

Our Music Director

Jayne holds a Bachelor of Music Education and a Masters in Educational Administration from the University of Melbourne. Until the end of 2018 she was the Director of Music at Toorak College. Prior to this she had been Director of Music at The Knox Scholl and Head of Choral and Vocal Studies at Presbyterian Ladies College.

Jayne was Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the CHIME choir for 24 years before recently working with the Essendon Symphony Orchestra for two years.

Jayne’s recent retirement from full time music teaching has given her the opportunity to once again become involved with community music and choirs in particular.

She has always loved choirs and has worked with them in schools and communities since she began her teaching career. She sang with the Melbourne Chorale, Melbourne Symphony Chorus, Victoria Chorale and Vic Opera Chorus for many years before taking the baton herself and under the initial mentorship of Kevin Casey took CHIME on countless international tours and competitions, including the Choral Olympics in Germany and Austria, and Festivals in Italy and Asia.

Jayne’s school choirs have always been eisteddfod winners, and her choral expertise, experience and extensive knowledge of choral repertoire make her a highly sought adjudicator for eisteddfods and competitions.

As a Collegian of MLC (Jayne attended Elsternwick MLC in her final school years) she has a special affinity with ‘The Star’ and is enjoying her first year with the Star Chorale.
