Star Chorale and its Orchestra will perform Karl Jenkin’s Stabat Mater and Faure Requiem under the baton of our Music Director, Jayne Turner and pianist Kathryn Pisani.
The Stabat Mater is a recent 2008 composition of Welsh composer Karl Jenkins and incorporates traditional Western music (orchestra and choir) with ethnic instruments and vocals, focusing on the Middle East. It is based on a 13th century poem, and meditates on the suffering of Mary, mother of Christ, during his crucifixion. It is in Latin and Jenkins has added other texts with it, in English, Hebrew and Aramaic. It is full of contrasts and has been widely acclaimed when performed since its premiere performance.
Faure composed his setting of the Requiem in 1888. Faure Requiem always delights audiences and is performed most expressively by the choir – whether boldly in Agnus Dei or sensitively in O Domine and with lyricism In Paradisum.
When: 2:30pm Sunday 22 September.
Where: James Tatoulis Auditorium, Methodist Ladies’ College, Kew.
