Music for Passiontide (SOLD OUT) 

(including Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater of 1736)

 

Featuring the combined voices of two of Melbourne’s finest community choirs,
Star Chorale and Box Hill Chorale, and outstanding soloists – Stella Horvath (soprano), Sydney-based countertenor Michael Burden (alto), and Jack Jordan (tenor) – this concert features a beautiful program of music for Passiontide,
appropriately performed on Good Friday.
The concert will feature a rare performance of the Vienna choral version of Pergolesi’s final famous masterpiece: the “Stabat Mater” of 1736, as well as excerpts from Handel’s “Messiah”, Orlando Gibbons’ “This Is The Record of John”, and miniature masterpieces by J.S. Bach, Wolfgang Mozart and Karl Jenkins.
Under the direction of conductor Andrew Wailes, the concert will also feature strings of the Royal Melbourne Philharmonic Orchestra, and chamber organist William Schmidt, and will be performed in the magnificent setting and superb acoustics of historic Christ Church South Yarra.

Car

Christ Church is less than 10 minutes from the CBD by car. There is limited parking in the church grounds outside school hours, but parking is available in Toorak Road (2 hour limit in business hours). Enter the grounds from Toorak Road.

Tram

Number 58 – Stop 125 – corner of Punt and Toorak Roads. 12-15 minutes from the CBD.

Train

South Yarra Station – take Cranbourne, Pakenham, Dandenong, Frankston, Sandringham – a 5-minute walk west on Toorak Road.

Bus

Route 246 –  Clifton Hill – Elsternwick – Stop 921 opposite the church.
