The Star Chorale – Interim Conductor Announcement
The Committee of the Star Chorale is very pleased to announce that Alexander Murer has been appointed, effective immediately, as the Chorale’s Interim Conductor for the balance of 2022, and will conduct our evening Christmas Concert on Sunday 4 December 2022 at 5:30pm.
Alexander is a widely experienced and a highly regarded choral conductor and opera singer who was born in Munich, Germany and grew up in Austria. Around 2011 he moved to Australia with his wife and two sons. He is now based in Melbourne as a sought-after performer, vocal teacher, choral conductor and adjudicator in music. He has studied musicology at the Melbourne Conservatory and holds the following qualifications MMuEdu, MMusPerf, BA, Grad. Dip. Education Music Educator, Voice Coach and Speech Trainer.
In Austria, Alexander completed his voice, organ, conducting, and piano studies at the University of Music and Dramatic Arts in Graz. At the same University, he also did his masters in music education and conducting. For most of his life he has worked as an opera singer (tenor) in Europe and the US, and also as a music educator at various Music Educational Institutes in Europe giving masterclasses in singing and conducting. In Melbourne he is a presenter since 2013 on the German 3ZZZ station, and worked as a vocal teacher and choral co-director at St Michael’s Grammar School for over five years. Currently Alexander and his wife run a German Community School, GECKOS Inc. which they founded in 2013.
